Avalon Faience Majolica SET of 2 Pitchers ~ Chesapeake Pottery ~ David Haynes & Co Baltimore MA 1882-1890

Offering a SET of 2 ~ Avalon Faience Majolica Pitchers

These pieces were made by David F. Haynes & Co. sometime between 1882 and 1890. Haynes bought the Chesapeake Pottery in Baltimore in 1882 and produced three lines of majolica: Clifton ware, Avalon Faience (this piece) and Real Ivory. Majolica, also called "Faience". The Avalon Faience line was decorated in simple over-the-glaze monochromatic decoration trimmed in gold, similar to the decorated earthenware coming out of England.

Offering a Large Pitcher and small pitcher or Creamer. Both pieces feature raised leaves, hand-painted accents of brown/maroon and gold gilt on the trim of rims and base. Making for a quite striking example of period American Majolica. The Avalon Faience marking on bottoms of both pieces., with PAT Pending on the bottom of larger one....The Pitcher is MARKED BUTTERCUP on the bottom........

MEASURES: LARGE: approx 6 1/2" tall x 7" wide from spout to handle x 5 1/2" to 6" deep SMALL: 4 1/2" tall x 5" wide from spout to handle x 3 1/2" deep

LARGER PITCHER: Light Crazing with light discoloration, hard to capture in the photos, on the larger pitcher, on one side and inside the pitcher with wear on the bottom. The insides have light crazing and light discoloration from age with a few kiln dimples that are dark in color. Great for a piece of this age and material.
SMALL PITCHER: Very light Crazing, No major staining, some light spots on the inside spout and bottom.. A very light hue of gray on the leaves. Light wear on the gold on both pieces.

The pictures are part of the description, so please look them over as well. These are all normal wear issues and brings patina and charm to these piece.
