Offering a wonderful piece of history ~ Childs ABC Plate "CHILD'S ABC ALPHABET PLATE ~ SEE-SAW" Staffordshire, England c. 1850
This plate features a transfer print of children on a See Saw with a dog. Another child is in the background. The center is done in a green print. The rim is in raised letters from the alphabet. The saying on the bottom face of the plate reads:
"See-Saw Margery Daw, She shall have but a penny a day. Jenny Shall Have a New Master, Because she can't Work any Faster"
I was told plates like these were made as gifts for good children and for rewards as well as aiding in education. These are highly collectible today and make wonderful gifts for any age.
